A Message from our Director of Coaching

LHYSA Players, Parents and Coaches:

As the Fall 2015 season approaches, we have new and exciting programs coming online at LHYSA,  Last season, with the help of Coach Moore, we ran a single Rec Plus team as a sort of pilot program for expanded training opportunities for our U8 - U10 players.  The demand for expansion was great, and this season we will have Rec Plus available for U9 Boys and Girls and U10 Boys.  Of course we will also have our community based rec leagues for U5 to U10 kids.

In addition, last season we ran a pilot program of a single select team composed of players from the high school varsity team.  Our collaboration with the school was a great success and the boys high school team advanced all the way to the UIL state final.  This year we will offer two select teams for high school boys, one for high school girls and a U12 boys team.  Select soccer is a new and challenging program for LHYSA.

Over the past several years, your LHYSA board has upgraded the quality of the recreational program and provided a great learning environment for our kids.  Our commitment to rec soccer is strong and to make sure that the select program does not sidetrack the board, the select program is being run by a small subcommittee of select parents and coaches.

Select soccer is different than recreational soccer.  The commitment demanded of the players is greater.  The management of the program is more focused on building and sustaining the club and creating the right environment for player and team development.  Decisions are made for the good of the club.  Technical management of the program is separated from administrative management.  At LHYSA select soccer will be a challenge until our player pool grows.  We will do our best to offer teams at ages where we have enough committed and capable players.  Sometimes, though, we will have to say no to requests that parents have.

I hope that all parents can understand that a "no" today is not a personal decision about you or your player.  It is a considered choice based on an evaluation of the long term needs of our players and club.
